My Favourite Fondue Recipe

Delicious Fondue Recipe

I think I have decided that this blog should really be where I post all my favourite recipes and share them with the world! I am a massive foodie but the top of the list is ALWAYS reserved for cheese... Who doesn't like cheese?

Fondue is basically cheese and wine and is the perfect recipe for sharing with friends.. or simply scoffing to yourself, I'm impressed with how much melted cheese you can eat when this delicious dish is placed in front of you and the best part of it, it's easy...sadly it's not calorie free!

So here's my quick recipe and method... with a little forward planning this shouldn't take you more than 15- 20 minutes to put together, especially if you can convince your fella to do a bit of the hard work too!

Recipe for the cheese Sauce

  • 200g Emmental Cheese
  • 400g Gruyère Cheese
  • 300ml of dry white wine
  • 20ml of Cointreau
  • 1tsp of cornflour
  • 1tsp of mustard powder
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • Spices to taste - Nutmeg, Paprika and Pepper

  • Sour Dough Bread

Extras

  • Mini sausages wrapped in bacon
  • Meatballs

The traditional is sticking just with the bread but I can't resist pigging out when it comes to this dish and treating myself to smoked sausages, chicken, meatballs and even some fine fillet steak if that's what you feel like on the night, you can make it as fancy as you like! Your bread and meats will need to be cooked prior and served hot once the cheese sauce is ready.

Method
Warm your Fondue dish in the oven whilst making your cheese sauce.

Pour in your white wine and turn the heat to low, you want to heat it through on the hob but try not to allow it to boil just yet. Measure your Cointreau and mix in your cornflour in a dish of it's own, add the mustard powder to the mix. It's much easier to mix this way.

Add a small amount of cheese at a time and mix well to ensure it melts down, continue to do this until all the cheese has been melted into the sauce. Take your dish out the oven at this part and rub the clove of garlic around the inside and set up the flame.

To finish your cheese sauce simply add your Cointreau mix and nutmeg, paprika and pepper to taste. Bring to the boil and stir thoroughly. Once done this can be added to the hot bowl and you are ready to go!

I love this dish so much, it's fantastic for feeding friends and having a social at the same time. Why not make it more interesting by adding a few forfeits for those who drop their bread in the fondue!

At any point you can switch this recipe up by changing the wine for cider or Gruyère for many of the other wonderful swiss cheeses that melt so well.
